Job Title: Key Worker (Children & Young People)

Location: London & Southeast (Wallington)

Salary: £22,000 – £25,000 per annum

Overview:

An expanding private care provider is seeking a compassionate Key Worker to join its team, supporting children and young people in a safe and nurturing environment. This organisation is committed to delivering high-quality care that promotes development and independence for children and young people who may have experienced challenges in their lives.

Role Purpose:

As a Key Worker, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety, well-being and progression of children and young people in supported accommodation, providing guidance and practical support to help them develop essential life skills and achieve their goals.

Key Duties:

  • Provide daily care and supervision, maintaining a positive and inclusive environment.

  • Support young people with everyday tasks, including meal preparation, personal care routines, budgeting and accessing healthcare.

  • Assist with implementing personalised support plans and encourage the development of independence and confidence.

  • Respond calmly and effectively to crises or incidents, following established policies and procedures.

  • Monitor and maintain the safety and security of the premises and report concerns promptly.

  • Keep accurate records of progress, daily notes and incident reports in line with organisational guidelines.

  • Work effectively with young people, colleagues and management, attending meetings and training as required.

  • Advocate for young people to ensure they can access the necessary external services and resources.

Requirements:

While previous experience in a similar role is desirable, it is not essential as full training and support will be provided. The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or a commitment to work towards this qualification.

  • Experience working with young people or within a care/support environment (desirable).

  • Empathy, patience and the ability to engage effectively with young people.

  • Good communication and record-keeping skills.

  • An understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to promoting the welfare of children.

  • The ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends and on-call where required.
