OFSTED Registered Manager (Children’s Residential Services) - Wallington, London

Location: Wallington, London (Southeast)
Contract Type: Initial 6-month contract with potential extension

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated OFSTED Registered Manager for our client’s children’s residential home in Wallington. This vital role involves ensuring the highest standards of care for young people with emotional and behavioural needs, providing a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment, and managing the home in line with OFSTED regulations.

The Role:

As the Registered Manager, you will oversee the daily operations of the home, lead a team, and ensure compliance with care standards. This is an excellent opportunity for someone committed to making a meaningful difference in young people’s lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the home complies with and exceeds OFSTED regulations, including managing inspections.
  • Mentor and develop the current manager to prepare them for future leadership.
  • Oversee daily management in line with the Care Standards Act.
  • Lead staff training and development, ensuring OFSTED standards are met.
  • Support young people in developing life skills, education, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure safeguarding is maintained.
  • Manage health and safety compliance, budgets, and home safety.
  • Liaise with external agencies to ensure comprehensive care for young people.

Person Specification:

Education and Qualifications

Essential:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management in Children and Young People’s Workforce (or equivalent, e.g., Level 4 RMA).
  • Current OFSTED registration as a Children’s Home Manager.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in childcare and willingness to undertake further training.
  • GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths & English.
  • Experience supporting others in achieving vocational qualifications.
  • Full UK driving licence or ability to commute without relying on public transport.

Experience

Essential:

  • At least 2 years’ experience working with children or young people with additional needs/disabilities in a residential setting.
  • At least 2 years' supervisory or management experience in a children’s care home.
  • Proven success managing a children’s home through OFSTED inspections.
  • Experience mentoring or coaching staff in leadership roles.
  • Strong track record in assessing care needs and leading teams.
  • Experience managing budgets and resources effectively.

Desirable:

  • Experience delivering staff training.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential:

  • In-depth knowledge of child development, safeguarding legislation, and the Children’s Homes Regulations/Quality Standards.
  • Strong understanding of the Children’s Act 1989 and health & safety regulations in childcare.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and CRM systems (preferably CHARMS).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with young people, staff, families, and external agencies.
  • Ability to motivate and lead teams, conduct appraisals, and resolve conflicts.

Desirable:

  • Experience managing change within a care environment.
