The organisation delivers integrated, person-centred care across community and custodial settings, with a strong focus on clinically-led, innovative mental health services that support recovery and rehabilitation in Essex.

The Package:

  • Competitive salary of £120,000 – £130,000 depending on experience

  • Full-Time | 40 Hours per Week | Flexible Working (4 or 5 Days)
  • 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays

  • Company sick pay and enhanced maternity provisions

  • Life assurance

  • Access to retail discounts, cash-back rewards, and vouchers

  • Instant access to earned pay to manage unexpected expenses

  • A comprehensive wellbeing support programme, covering mental, physical, legal, and financial health

  • Dedicated CPD pathways and career progression opportunities via structured learning and leadership support

  • A collaborative culture that encourages innovation, with access to ring-fenced funding for service development

The Role:

As Consultant Psychiatrist, you will hold clinical responsibility for a patient cohort within the secure setting, many of whom present with complex psychiatric needs. Your role will involve direct clinical care, service leadership, and strategic contribution to service development.

Key responsibilities:

  • Undertake psychiatric assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning

  • Formulate complex cases incorporating both mental and physical health factors

  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications in line with NICE guidelines

  • Lead multidisciplinary case discussions and provide clinical supervision

  • Collaborate closely with operational and clinical colleagues to optimise patient outcomes

  • Engage in service development and clinical governance initiatives

  • Promote a patient-centred, recovery-oriented approach to care

  • Attend and contribute to MDT meetings, risk assessments, and case reviews

Requirements:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and licence to practice

  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register for General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry

  • Approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983

  • Broad experience in adult psychiatry, ideally including work with personality disorder and complex trauma

  • Strong understanding of multidisciplinary and multi-agency working

  • Up-to-date knowledge of UK mental health legislation, safeguarding, and policy

This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the mental health and rehabilitation of a vulnerable population, while furthering your own development in a rewarding and well-supported clinical setting.

If you are looking for a new challenge in secure care, we welcome your application on behalf of our client.
