Role Overview
As a General Practitioner in this pilot programme, you will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to provide clinical assessments, diagnosis, and treatment for paediatric patients. You will also support a team of nurse practitioners and other healthcare staff in managing unscheduled, same-day walk-in consultations.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality medical care to paediatric patients aged 0-5 years in a walk-in setting.
- Conduct clinical assessments, make autonomous decisions on diagnosis and management, and provide treatment for minor ailments and injuries.
- Support nurse practitioners and other healthcare staff, contributing to staff development and education.
- Use evidence-based knowledge when treating patients, ensuring the highest standards of care.
- Appropriately request and interpret diagnostic tests, including ECGs and X-rays (if available in the unit).
- Provide appropriate health education, advice, and support to patients and their families.
- Issue prescriptions according to best practice guidelines and dispense medication when pharmacy services are unavailable.
- Maintain accurate and clear consultation notes in accordance with local and professional policies.
- Work flexibly across different shifts to ensure the smooth operation of the pilot service.
Requirements
Essential
- Fully registered General Practitioner with the GMC and on a Medical Performers List.
- Experience as a fully qualified GP in the UK.
- Basic Life Support qualification.
- Commitment to professional development and completion of all statutory and mandatory training requirements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, make clinical decisions, and manage a demanding workload.
Desirable
- MRCGP qualification.
- Experience working in Walk-In Centres or Urgent Care settings.
- Familiarity with interpreting X-Rays, ECGs, and managing minor injuries.
- Knowledge of Adastra and SystmOne computer systems.
