Residential Youth Support Worker needed in East Sussex

Location: BN23, East Sussex
Salary: £14.44 per hour
Department: Children’s Services
Grade: Single Status 7/8 (Progression to Single Status 8 dependent on completion of a relevant professional qualification)

The Role
As a Residential Youth Support Worker, you will provide day-to-day care and support to children in our care, contributing to their well-being, growth, and development. You will play a key role in planning and implementing care strategies, managing risk, and liaising with external professionals to ensure a holistic approach to each child's needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality care and support in line with Ofsted standards, Children’s Homes Regulations, and statutory Looked After Child guidance.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of young people in your care.
  • Lead shifts, manage work assignments, and ensure compliance with legislative and departmental policies.
  • Engage young people in planning and participating in positive activities, both individually and in groups.
  • Contribute to therapeutic care planning and risk management.
  • Administer medication and maintain accurate records.
  • Provide support and personal care to children with complex physical needs (Disability Homes).
  • Collaborate with professionals from various services and build effective relationships with families.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • QCF Level 2 in English and Maths or ability to pass an assessment at interview.
  • Experience working with children and young people.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and ICT skills.
  • Ability to engage with children and young people with a range of needs.
  • Understanding of diversity, equality, and safeguarding issues.
  • Willingness to travel to other children’s homes if required.

Desirable Skills

  • Minibus driver or willingness to undertake training (Disability Homes).
